Date: February 9, 2020

Location: UICA

On the margins of Tokyo, a dysfunctional band of outsiders are united by fierce loyalty, a penchant for petty theft and playful grifting. When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence and test their quietly radical belief that it is love—not blood—that defines a family.

This program is free and open to the public and begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 9th in the UICA theater.

A panel discussion with a film scholar and history/cultural representative takes place after the film viewing, followed by a reception with complimentary food and beverages reflecting the regional cuisine of the film's origin.

Panel Discussion for Shoplifters:

Moderator: Luis Vecchio

Panelist(s): Spencer Everhart (film); Naoki Kanaboshi (culture)
